Thomas E. Spang
President, Advanced Power Asset Management
Senior Vice President, Engineering and Construction
Tom Spang is the CEO of Advanced Power. He is an Executive Board Member, a member of the Senior Management Committee and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power.
Mr. Spang has more than 25 years of experience in the development, financing, investment and management of electric generating facilities. Before co-founding Advanced Power, he was Vice President and Head of UK Development for InterGen in Edinburgh and London, where he successfully led the development and financing of the 860 MW Spalding project. Mr. Spang was also Vice President, Asset Management for InterGen in Boston, where he was responsible for successfully restructuring InterGen’s insurance program. Prior to joining InterGen, Mr. Spang was a developer for J. Makowski Company, a Boston-based developer of CHP and IPP projects, where he was involved in the development of projects in USA, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
Mr. Spang has a BA in economics from Hobart College in New York.
Mr. Winslow has over 15 years of experience in business development in the environmental and energy sectors. Since joining Advanced Power in 2007, he has held roles in finance and development of increasing responsibility. His experience includes the development and commercialization of over 3,000 MWs of highly-efficient low-carbon electric generation and over $4Billion in structured project financing in North America and Europe.
Mr. Winslow was the Project Manager of Advanced Power’s 700 MW Carroll County Energy project, where he successfully originated, developed and led the project team to a project financing in April 2015. Subsequent to Carroll County Energy financing Mr. Winslow completed the development, commercialization and equity raise of Advanced Power’s 1,100MW Cricket Valley Energy project in January 2017. Overseeing Advanced Power’s development team, Advanced Power has successfully completed the development and financing of Advanced Power’s 1,100 MW South Field Energy project in August 2018.
Prior to joining Advanced Power, Mr. Winslow was an integral part of a team at JCI Holdings responsible for the development and launch of several major infrastructure projects and environmental and energy start-up companies throughout the Northeast United States.
Mr. Winslow has a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and environmental sciences from the University of Vermont and an MBA in finance from Northeastern University.
Chuck Davis is President of Advanced Power Asset Management with responsibility for the management of Advanced Power’s investments under construction and in operation. He is also a member of the Senior Management Committee.
Mr. Davis has 30 years of experience in energy infrastructure development, finance, investment and general management. His experience with major infrastructure projects includes management of the full green-field development cycle, from inception through financing, as well as leadership and management of operating businesses. Prior to joining Advanced Power Mr. Davis was President and CEO of Drax Biomass, where he led the establishment of Drax Power’s US pellet manufacturing and logistics business, which included over 1 million tons/year of wood pellet manufacturing capacity and an associated port facility. Before that, he was a Senior Advisor with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, where he managed portfolio company investments. At InterGen and J. Makowski Associates he held senior management positions in the USA, Europe and Asia, both as a project developer and as head of InterGen’s UK business. Before his civilian career, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Davis holds a BA from Tufts University and an MBA from Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business Administration.
Todd Magura is Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Senior Management Committee. Mr. Magura has global responsibility for equity and debt finance, treasury, accounting, tax, planning and risk management.
Mr. Magura brings 20 years of financial experience in the power industry across project finance, corporate finance, treasury, accounting and planning. His experience includes the raising of approximately $5 billion of project equity and debt to support the development, construction or acquisition of twelve power generation and gas infrastructure projects in the United States and Mexico and $5 billion of corporate financing with High Yield, Term Loan B and Commercial Bank investors. Mr. Magura has also served in variety of positions within the treasury, accounting and planning disciplines during his career. Prior to joining Advanced Power in 2014, Mr. Magura was Director, Finance & Treasury at InterGen. Prior to InterGen, Mr. Magura was a Senior Auditor at Deloitte & Touche.
Mr. Magura has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems from Babson College.
Andrew Degon is Senior Vice President of Engineering and Construction and a member of the Senior Management Committee. Mr. Degon has global responsibility for all technical issues related to development, construction and operations.
Mr. Degon has 18 years of experience in the power industry with expertise in development engineering, construction management, contract negotiations and combined cycle operations. His experience includes the development and construction of over 6,000 MW of electric generating facilities, negotiating $2.5 billion in EPC contracts and $500 million of long-term service agreements with OEMs.
Prior to joining Advanced Power in 2013, Mr. Degon held various engineering positions for independent power producers, including LS Power, GenPower and Capital Power. During his employment at LS Power, Mr. Degon worked on the development of Plum Point, Sandy Creek and West Deptford power plants and provided technical due diligence on the acquisition of 10,000 MW of thermal generation assets. While at GenPower, Mr. Degon conducted construction management for the Longview Power Plant in West Virginia. Shortly before joining Advanced Power, Mr. Degon provided technical oversight for a number of operating assets located in the Northeast for Capital Power.
Mr. Degon has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University.
Peter Ramm is an Executive Board member, a member of the Senior Management Committee and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power. With more than 30 years of experience in the energy sector and with his deep knowledge of the European energy markets, Mr. Ramm provides advice and guidance to Advanced Power’s development and asset management teams operating in Europe.
Prior to joining Advanced Power, Mr. Ramm was with InterGen, where he was responsible for the technical aspects of the development of the 800 MW Knapsack project and for providing technical support to the 860 MW Spalding and 800 MW Rijnmond projects. Before joining InterGen, Mr. Ramm worked at PB Power representing many leading financial institutions and heading up technical due diligence teams for the review of various international power plant projects worldwide. Mr. Ramm has detailed knowledge of all major technologies and has assessed plant utilizing GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi and Alstom gas turbines. Prior to PB Power, Mr. Ramm worked for GEC Large Steam Turbine in all aspects of power plant development, design, manufacturing and construction.
Mr. Ramm is a Fellow of the IMechE and has a MA and a BA (Hons) in Engineering from Cambridge University.
Martin Bashall is the Group General Counsel, Executive Board Member, Secretary of the Board and a Founding Shareholder of Advanced Power. Mr. Bashall is responsible for Advanced Power’s legal and corporate governance affairs. He is also a member of the Advanced Power Senior Management Committee.
Prior to his joining Advanced Power, Mr. Bashall was at InterGen as Vice President and regional General Counsel for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before joining InterGen, Mr. Bashall was in private practice as Counsel with the New York law firm of Chadbourne & Parke, specializing in the project financing of power projects in Pakistan, China and the Philippines. Prior to his time at Chadbourne & Parke, Mr. Bashall was at the law firms of Freshfields and Clifford Chance.
Mr. Bashall holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Rhodesia. He is a solicitor of the High Court of Justice for England and Wales and a member of the International Bar Association.
